What's on at B&FYC...

Well it appears I'm a terrible blogger! I'll try harder to update my blog showing what is happening in the world of Blackpool and Fleetwood Yacht Club!

What's on...
Saturday 1st December: Hooper Night.
This is a laid back live acoustic night with Ian Hooper. There will be table service (so reserve a table if you wish to be waited on hand and foot) with a light bite menu consisting of Homemade ¼lb burger, chips, BBQ ribs, Spicy chicken wings, and nachos. It was a great night last time and I now everyone that attended has told their friends about it so come down. It is free for members or just £2.00 for non members.
Sunday 16th December: Christmas Lunch
The ever popular Christmas lunch is nearly sold out! I'm not going to squeeze 120 people in as I did last year but it will still be a great afternoon of feasting and drinking. As there is a race in the morning the start time will be 3pm to ensure all are off the water and warming their cockles with a glass or two. This is a 3 course meal all for just £12.50 a head and under 12s eating FREE!! For tickets just reply to this mail with the names of those attending and their ages if under 12.
Sunday 30th December: The 50th annual Eskimo Race.
The race starts at 11am and is £5 for single handers and £10 for double handers. This is a great open event and your help would be appreciated! Volunteers are always required to help with car parking duties, out on the water in rescue boats or just to come down and enjoy the show! The kitchen will be open from 0800 till late afternoon. Entry forms can be found on the YC homepage.
Thursday 3rd January: Hooper Night.
The monthly night returns and will be a welcome relief after the hectic festive period, I promise.
Tuesday 22nd January: Rules night.
Be one of the first to find out the new racing rules and get that edge! This talk is open to all sailors so if you have friends in other clubs that wish to attend, bring them down. There will be hot pot served at the interval.
Friday 25th January: Bistro night.
For reservations give me a call (07703793018) and request a start time between 7 and 8.

Saturday 2nd February: Annual Prize Giving

See you all over the festive period!

It's all about the social... Important Date Change.

Hi all,
As the summer sailing draws to an end, the fortnightly winter sailing kicks in, and fewer skiers hit the water, some of you might be wondering what to do with yourselves. Well there is always something on at the club!
In date order:
Friday 26th sees the first of my new Friday bistro nights. Following feedback and a rise in popularity of my Tuesday bistro I have changed nights. This first one is fully booked but I will be holding them once a month on the 3rd Friday. The menu comprises of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts which are individually priced or you can get 3 courses for £12.50. If these prove popular I'm hoping to do them more often in the New Year. To give you an idea of what I do this month's menu is: Trio of Fish (Homemade Smoked Mackerel Pate, Potted Shrimps and Smoked Salmon); Goats Cheese with Rhubarb and Horseradish Chutney served warm on a crustini, Homemade Roast Tomato and red pepper Soup. Followed by: Pork Noisette with Prunes, Sirloin Minute Steak with white bean mash and Pan fried Sea bass with mash. For dessert: Individual chocolate fondue with fresh fruit and marsh mellows (let's face it I doubt you'll read past that one!), Panne cotta and the last one is yet to be decided!
Thursday 1st November Live Music Night with Ian Hooper. Very excited about this one! The first Thursday(ish) in each month Ian Hooper will be performing for us. There will be a light bite menu and table service so come on down and bring your friends! Entry is free for members and just £2 for non members.
Saturday 17th November (CHANGE OF DATE) Commodore's Evening
The Commodore and his Lady would like to request your company for the Commodore's Evening following their 2 years service.
By popular demand: The Ladies of our club have requested an opportunity to "Glam up" so ball gowns and LBDs at the ready as this will be a Black Tie event.
Ticket Price: £18.50
Menu:
Starter:
Prawn Cocktail
Traditional prawn cocktail with the usual Dancing Fish twist! Served with brown bread
Mains:
Pork in cider with Juniper
Mustard mash
Peas
Dessert:
Syrup Sponge and Custard
Coffee and a selection of cheeses will be available.
Friday 23rd November: Bistro night
Saturday 1st December: Ian Hooper
Sunday 16th December: Christmas Lunch. This was very popular last year with 120 people attending!!!! This obviously caused service problems, especially as it was my first event! I now have more experience and regular staff so this year's is going to be EPIC! Priced at just £12.50 for 3 courses with Children under 12 eating FREE. I promise to cook enough roast potatoes and ensure the pigs in blankets are cooked in time! ;-)
Thursday 3rd January 2013: "Survivor's Ball" with Ian Hooper
So hope to see you all very soon. Have a good week and don't forget the clocks go back this weekend!

BFYC News and Tuesday 18th Sept Bistro

Hi all,
This weekend hosts the club's second open day of the year and following on from the success of the sailing "Taster" day on Sunday the 19th and the write up in the Gazette published on Thursday 23rd we are expecting a BUSY day.The event starts at 1030 and will run till 1330 with hightide being at approximately 1200.
Any volunteers who wish to come down and help with either the administration of the day or to take people out on the water would be gratefully received! At the previous events the club has been busy with members passing on words of encouragement and helpful advice on boat purchasing and sailing in general which allows people to experience what a friendly bunch we are, so even if you can't spare the time to help out, come and have a beer, some food and chat to perspective new members, it all helps.

The last weekend in September is our Annual Lifeboat Regatta. There is sailing planned for both days for the offshore and 3 races on the Sunday for the dinghies. As usual there will be a fund raising event on the Saturday night, the details of which are yet to be decided.

The next Tuesday Bistro night will be on the 18th of September but this will be the last one :-( Due to the popularity of Tuesday night drinking and the Bistro I'm having to split them up! So the Tuesday Bistro will become Friday Bistro :-)!! The forthcoming dates for these will be: Friday 26th October, 23rd November, 25th January 2013. This also means the bar will be open on these nights for drinkers too.

Regatta July 2012

Hi all,

Very excited about this weekends annual regatta! I have 2 barbeques planned, for Friday night from 8ish and Sunday from 12.

Friday night's barbeque is to provide refreshments for all those going on the bike ride this year but is open to all that wish to join in.

Sunday's is going to be epic! Starting at 12 and running through till the evening. I'll have all the usual on there (homemade ¼lb burgers, ribs, drumsticks, potatoes, sausages) plus some special favourites: Sardines, Mustard Mackerel Fillets (if any are caught), lamb kebabs, salmon etc etc etc. Also on Sunday there will be a face painter, children's entertainer and a bouncy castle.

Saturday night starts with mudfootball at 7 where the bar will be open for participants and spectators alike. The Summer Ball is due to start at 7.30 so mud footballers will have to bring their showering stuff and black tie and get changed at the club! The food on offer is a special buffet with Mediterranean inspired nibbles to start, cold buffet for mains and a selection of deserts and cheeses to help finish the night. Music is courtesy of the Fearless Brothers. There are still some tickets left so give me a call!!

Oh and I think someone has arranged some sailing to get in the way of all the drinking and eating.

See you in a week,

Dan

27th March - Summer is here!

Hi all,

I've been a bit busy recently planning for the babies arrival so have not been able to cook or update this blog!

So, the Tuesday Bistro and Sunday lunches are on hold for the time being as I don't want to commit in case I have to rush off to hospital!

With the weather being so good it has made me think about this summer's menu. Each week I will attempt to make a fresh soup and offer a choice of sandwiches. I intend to do food on each race day with barbeque's being my favourite - watch this space! I will also do a selection of salads.

There will be food over the Easter period with an all you can eat barbeque on the Saturday night, with entertainment for £7.50! Bargain!!

Enjoy the sun and see you soon.

Easter Saturday

Hi,
No blogs for 3 weeks then 2 in 1 day!

Mr Swannie and I discussed the Easter Saturday social yesterday and have decided on a disco with buffet. I'm hoping to dust off the barbeque for the first one of what I'm hoping to be a barbeque filled summer!

It's a family affair and the tide will be around 10m at midnight so going for an early start and finish. Tickets will be £10 a head and will run from 7 till 11 so bring along the family...hopefully my son will be there!

See you all soon.

Latest Update - Tuesday Bistro

Hi all,

Apologies for the lack of updates in the last week or two.

I have decided to put the Tuesday bistro on hold till after my son is born. I'm expecting them to revive the second Tuesday after Easter, the 17th April.

After this date there will be a slightly different format, where I will do a set menu which will be the same each time and then add in a couple of specials. I will also only be doing them once a month on the second Tuesday. There will be posters in the club house detailing the date and I will also update the usual social network sites.

Thanks
Dan

Sunday 12th and Tuesday 14th February

Hi all,

Last Sunday saw the first weekend of the year without sailing coupled with the poor weather meant there were no reservations for the Sunday lunch.

Sailing resumes this week with a start time of 1255. Sunday lunch will be served as usual from 12 till 3 with hotpot and the all day breakfast menus being served throughout and even after the sailing. The hot roast beef / chicken sandwiches seem to be going down a real treat! The new menu / pricing is below.

Tuesday 14th - Valentine's Day Special

In addition to the usual selection of starters and mains (fresh from the farm / dock) I'm going to do a sharing dish in honour of St Valentine's day. Two of my favourite sharing dishes have to be a cheese fondue and  raclette. As I haven't been skiing this year (and I'm in need of some "Haute Savoie" cheesy goodness) I will be amalgamating these alpine classics by serving the fondue with the raclette accompaniments of:
Boiled new potatoes,
French bread,
Assiette of cold meats.
Given the requirements of this dish it will need to be ordered when you make your reservation!

I'm expecting to be quite busy on Tuesday as I've had a couple of reservations already so book early to avoid disappointment!

See you all soon.
